Browser wars

I noticed an interesting statistic today. For the first time FireFox pulled ahead of Internet Explorer, accessing these pages.

 FireFox - 48.5 %
MS Internet Explorer - 47.8 %

And the numbers are lying a bit as well. I almost exclusively use IE, when adding content, and my accesses, by far, heavily skew the numbers in IE’s favour. Removing my numbers would shift the numbers, putting FireFox well into the lead.

The browsers wars, is one thing that I absolutely never get into. Now, I know what most of you are thinking. You’re thinking; NakedPaul, of course you don’t get into browser bickering, it’s just not in your personality to be argumentative and adversarial.

Apologies to FireFox users

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I discovered a problem with FireFox users. When FireFox attempted to display an embedded Youtube video, an internal server error occurred.

The cause was how the Youtube plug-in interpreted the link. I was creating the Youtube link exactly as I would any link, but modifying the http: to httpv: as required by the plugin. Apparently, the link should not have been written within html’s a href tag.

It worked fine for IE, but not FF. I have fixed all the links and the Youtube vids work properly for both FF and IE.

Now that it’s fixed, you can proceed to religious browser wars, as is the norm, whenever FF and IE are mentioned in the same sentence.
