Poker
My absolute biggest passion is poker. To me there are three broad categories of poker; casino poker, online poker and kitchen table poker.
Casino Poker is my absolute favorite, I can get into a game a play for hours. Online poker is a pretty good alternative, but it lacks the same social appeal. Actually, playing online properly, can get boring. Proper poker means folding. Sitting there for hours pressing fold, has little appeal. The online Sit an Go (SnG) tournaments, changes that.
With SnGs you start with 9 or 10 people, the blinds raise quickly. You start of very tight (folding a lot) and as people get knocked out you loosen up. As you loosen up, you play more hands and hopefully, when you make the money, you are playing a lot of hands aggressively.
Kitchen Table Poker, we have all played it, that’s how most of us got started. If you like kitchen table poker, then your next step is Casino or Online. But, these can be very different games. Kitchen table is my least favorite, it’s often stupid; Chicago, Follow the Queens, Kings and Low in the Hole, wild cards, the Man with the Axe. UGH!
Once a month, I play Kitchen Table Poker. It’s more of a social evening. We take turn hosting, the host buys the booze, and makes a meal. On a bad night the most you can loose is $30-$40 bucks. On a good night maybe win $50-$60. I usually have good nights. None of my kitchen table poker pals, have the same poker passion I do. None have studied the game like I have. None read the news groups I do. None own 30 or so poker books.
