YoYoGames Competition 3 shortlist?

In the YoYoGames Competition 4 Glog entry, Sandy Duncan, YYGs CEO, responded:

Comp03 results should be out soon. Can’t give an exact date as MarkO is away till next week and he won’t let us do anything unless he has a vote !! Problem we’re facing is there are a LOT more good games submitted than in previous competitions. Normally by now we would have a shortlist of 10. At the moment it’s still close to 30 !

I expect the following three entries to be shortlisted. At worst make honourable mention in the Competition 3 winner announcements, and probably take home some or all of the prize money.

Drop in the Bucket by KC LC.
Lost Snowmen by RedSystem.
Byteality Tower Defence by Erik Leppen.

What are my predictions based on?

Because they are all great games? No, although they are.

Because two of the game creators have monied in previous competitions? No, even though they have.

Because the game creators have a history of releasing terrific games? No, all though they all do.

My predictions, though influenced by the above, are based on recently played lists.

Looking at Mark Overmars, and YoYoJim’s profiles, we see these Competition 3 games are listed on their recently played lists. At this late stage of the competition and being only days away from the winners announcement, it makes sense that these influential YYGs team members be concentrating on the shortlisted games.

Keep an eye out on their, and other YYGs staff recently played list for a peak at other Competition 3 shortlist candidates.

Hey, that’s a very smart way of spying YYG! :P
I only think this won’t actually predict the winners, but will predict the honorable mentions.

  2. SoulRed12 Says:

I rather agree with Pallas. Sandy mentioned there are still 30 games contending, and who knows what order they are being played in. Although I do agree with your last line,

“Keep an eye out on their, and other YYGs staff recently played list for a peak at other Competition 3 shortlist candidates.”

  3. ClothedSteveBread Says:

Doesn’t this just mean that those three games will be on the 30 game shortlist?

“The Rape Game” is also on Mark’s recently played list…

Which has been removed due to inappropriate content. Likely reported, investigated and removed.

But this does raise the question, should information about people’s game playing habits be displayed?

  6. ClothedSteveBread Says:

You fail to explain just why this hurts anyone. So if it’s not hurting anyone, why shouldn’t this info be displayed?

Well, you should at least have the option to disable it. This kind of thinking is the same thing as “Well, if you’ve got nothing to hide…” attitude of the US government.

If I’ve got nothing to hide, why are you (the powers that be) interested in looking? It doesn’t “hurt” anyone to publicly list where you’ve been, or what you’ve bought. However, some people just don’t want that information publicly displayed.

  8. SoulRed12 Says:

O_o It’s not like it’s a list of everywhere you’ve been the past few weeks. It’s just a list of games you’ve recently played.

Besides, if you don’t want people to know you’ve played whatever game for whatever reason, just log out, play the game, and log back in.

  9. Yourself Says:

“It’s just a list of games you’ve recently played.”

But it’s enough to have people harassing you about what games you’ve played.

“Besides, if you don’t want people to know you’ve played whatever game for whatever reason, just log out, play the game, and log back in.”

Yeah, because logging off just to play a game that turns out to be shitty wasn’t a total waste of time. Yes, this will work for now; no, this is not a worthwhile solution.

  10. Pallas Says:

A little update on the ‘list of 30′. Mark Overmars last played games were:
    1. The Eyeballs
    2. Wootman
    3. Visit 2
    4. A Square Shaped Adventure
    5. Timewave
    Which are all competition03 games… !

There should probably be an opt out option.

And Comp03 winners have been announced. NPT’s guesses were:

1.Drop in the Bucket by KC LC.
    2.Lost Snowmen by RedSystem.
3.Byteality Tower Defence by Erik Leppen.

    1. No feature at all
    2. Runner up
    3.Winner!
