IQ and GMC members

OK, let’s clear some things up right away.

Yes, I am aware that IQs, testing methods, distribution curves are problematic. Especially when IQs are compared between individuals, sexes, cultures and countries. Even with the problems, there are strong correlations between IQs and intelligence, academic performance, income, and other markers.

And yes, I’m also aware that correlation does not necessarily mean causation. Though, often it does.

Lately, I’ve noticed a few members posting their perceived IQs in their signatures.

.

Sadly, there was another member, claiming an IQ of 145, but has had his signature removed because of a size violation. Amazing how he’s smarter than 99% of the population, but can’t figure out how to confine his signature to 550 x 150.

And how about that guy claiming an IQ of 179. An IQ of 179 would put him in the upper 0.000507% of the population. Or one of the 1521 smartest people in all of the USA, and one of the 30,000 smartest people in the world.

The GMC is truly privileged to have him.

The thing is, of the people who make these grand IQ claims. I’ve noticed they they certainly don’t act like geniuses. The questions they ask certainly aren’t challenging, in fact they are rather dumb.

Mr. 179 wasn’t able to figure out; who to contact to re-register Game Maker, nor could he remember his email.

Of course when he finally did remember, I just had to have a little fun with him.

Alright, I remembered the email and got it back. — IQ 179

Looks like the ol’ 179 IQ kicked in, just in time. — NPT

Lol. Does IQ have anything to do with common sense? — IQ 179

Obviously not. — NPT

Those online IQ testing sites, that also happen to sell certificates of authenticity, with your name and IQ, wouldn’t be inflating IQ test scores, to boost sales? Would they?

These guys are geniuses, I’m sure they can figure it out.

Oh, yeah. There’s one other correlation I forgot to mention. There’s been numerous studies demonstrating a correlation between IQ and strong religious belief. I’ll let you guess, which end those with strong faith are on, and which end the atheists are on.

His IQ value was brought from a site with thousands of advertisements, with biased results towards higher values to make proud people post the link, with uncertified algorithms and with unfavorable “testing conditions” where cheating is ridiculously easy.

Thinking his IQ, in such a case, was legitimate, makes his lack of insight even more apparent.

I always love how you leave JUST enough information to track down who you are criticizing. Not a lot. But just enough.

    I’ve noticed that as well.

    “He won’t be missed.”

I used to cringe every time I saw one of his questions in the novice section; they were practically formatted for maximum illegibility.

  5. Mnementh Says:

I just took the IQ test advertised in the above signature. Apparently, I have an IQ of over 160. I must be smart.

It doesn’t count until you put it in your signature.

By the way: The plural of “Genius” is “Genii”. Hence the old legends, and how the guys coming out of lamps often look like wizened old men. (See previous post for irony.)

I also like the fact that that site has a list of “non compulsary questions”, but it complains if you click to answer none of them. Of course, it had already sent the results so you just close the browser window.

I left about a quarter of the question unanswered, and got 147. Imagine what I could have managed if I had actually tried.

Sites like that should be illegal, and tried under false advertising. The questions were far too simple.

Yup, I’ve always found the atheist a bit slow myself too.

    No.

The plural of genius, when used to describe someone of extraordinary intellect, is geniuses. The plural of genius, when used to describe a Roman or Arabic spirit is genii.

Genius is a homonym, with different plurals.

    What’s the plural of Guinness?

    o i c wut u did there…

And I’ve always found the creationists to be a bit irrational, closed-minded, stupid, retarded, idiotic, and annoying. Have fun worshipping an imaginary man in the sky! I’m sorry but religion prevents you from looking at anything that conflicts with it with an open mind.

  13. Soleil Says:

That’s one of the most close-minded comments on the subject that I’ve heard in a while. Congrats. How about another round of Guinness for your achievement?

  14. Exacerbate Says:

How so? I was surrounded by those people for 14 years before I grew a brain and left that shit. I know how they are. I know how I was. Atheists were attacked, so I attacked back. Since the attack on atheism wasn’t intelligent, neither was mine.

  15. Yourself Says:

I’d put my IQ of 250 in my sig, but I think the joke would be far too subtle.

  16. Schreib Says:

I think the joke would be more interesting if you put “I have an IQ of 154.63. What’s yours?”

I’d like to make an IQ test subpage with the first and last question “What is your IQ?” and have the test bring out something inversely proportional to that.

  17. Yourself Says:

No, that’s far too obvious. IQ’s that are impossible to get with the current size of the human population are funnier to me.

  18. Soleil Says:

“Since the attack on atheism wasn’t intelligent, neither was mine.”

Dude. They were both jokes. I still think you’re close-minded, but at least I attempt to make light of it with a cold beer. This topic is not related to religion. Move on.

So I flung myself at a few IQ tests that came up on Google.

Not being a creationist, I actually agree partially with you there. not on all the points, and not to as great an extent though. Many of the greatest scientist of the world have been highly religious, but it didn’t stop them - in fact, it often encouraged them.

If you know why something is done, that shouldn’t stop you asking “How?”

The greatest IQ test of all is not clicking on those links, unless in a commentry on innaccuracy like this one.
