Biggest Damned Smallmouth

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

I caught the best Smallmouth Bass in my life today.

As soon as I set the hook, he jumped, he was quite a ways away, so I couldn’t really tell how big he was. He then immediately went down to the bottom of the lake. If I had not seen him jump, I would have thought I was snagged on the bottom. There was absolutely no moving him.

I adjusted the drag, and just kept reeling. We reversed the boat, back towards his direction. He tired a bit, I got him up to the surface and he jumped again. I knew he was a good one because of the fight, but seeing him jump this close to the boat, was just awesome.

Netted him shortly after. He put up a helluva fight, jumped twice and took me about 10 minutes to land.

Thanks Bob

While cottaging, my laptop picked up an unsecured wireless access point, named “Bob”. I have no idea where it is. The signal is very weak, and often intermittent, but I can get to the net.

I wonder if those who have unsecured WAP, don’t know how to secure them, don’t care, or if it is a deliberate attempt to share their wireless.

Anyway, thanks Bob.

The Retail Industry Needs More Rocket Scientists

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

I dropped into the Beer Store to pick up some beer for the fishing trip we’re leaving on Saturday. I ordered 24 LakePort Honey Browns, a half-dozen of Dave’s Spiked Lemonade, and a half-dozen of Dave’s Spiked Cranberry Lemonade. At this point the cashier tells me that Dave’s coolers don’t come by the half-dozen, I would have to have six-packs.

Huh? OK.

I feigned disappointment, and changed my order to a couple six-packs instead. So would somebody explain to me how this genius is equipped to deal with under-aged and intoxicated patrons.

On the way back home I pop into a second hand store to get a new putter for me and one for Mrs. NakedPaulToast. We are both using old hand me down putters, it’s time to try the new heavier, mallet style.

Smack’n It

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

We had our last lesson today.

I was using the driver and hitting the ball pretty good. Every once in a while the ball would draw a little too much or slice. Don, our instructor, started bugging me about using a ladies driver.

You see, our clubs are a mix of old hand-me-downs and the driver I use is a ladies driver. He then explained to me that ladies drivers have a lot more flex in them. That can be benificial for women who don’t have the club speed, but when a man uses it, it flexes too much and can introduce a lot of inconsistencies. Especially when they are trying to hit it far.

I switched my ladies driver, with Mrs. NakedPaulToast’s driver. It’s an older Callaway Big Bertha.

Give A Man A Fish

Often when I am walking downtown I will see the same man on a street corner begging for change for a coffee. I think he’s probably homeless, he’s always in need of a good tub, probably schizophrenic. No problem, I’ll reach into my pocket and dig out some quarters.

I never actually see him in the coffee shop. But sure enough, next time I’m down town there he is again. Asking for some spare change.

On the GMC, there are a lot of generous people willing to dig into their pockets, for some spare change. But like me and the gnarly old man, they are at a loss to provide lasting help.

Exciting Times For GM Ahead

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

I’m constantly amazed at the popularity of negative issues about GM or YoYoGames, here on the GMC. While everybody seems so disinterested in the good news stories.

Browsing through the YoYoGames Glog, Sandy has mentioned somethings that are so encouraging that there are some great things ahead for Game Maker enthusiasts.

Mark has been very busy in the early summer months doing some clever things with Game Maker

Like many previous versions, I’m sure that there will be some nice surprises. Mark has always been very good at including unanticipated new features.
