Members - Worth a closer look.

ragarnak is a huge contributer on the GMC. He typically posts responses to problems in the Novice and Advanced forums.

You can count on his responses being accurat, and probably the preferred solution.

Members - Worth a closer look.

Ericdb used to be a moderator on the GMC. Easily one of the more technically able members. He hasn’t been posting as much lately. Probably the first member who I regularly, would use “Find members Posts”.

Definetely worth reading.

Treat Uninitialized Variables As Value 0

Monday, June 18th, 2007

[originally posted on the GMC link]

Ok everybody, stop what you’re doing. Go into Global Game Settings and turn off Treat uninitialized variables as value 0. It is an abomination, and evil. It is far more dangerous than a woman scorned and has caused more deaths than the bird flu.

Turn it off, now.

Occasionaly somebody will report an Unknown variable  error message, and somebody else will advise them to turn on Treat uninitialized variables as value 0. This is terrible advice. Don’t do it! And should somebody tell you to turn it on, politely ignore it.

Game Maker

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

For a few years I have been using this terrific game creating software.

Game Maker by Mark Overmars. It really is a terrific package, allowing absolute beginners to start making games, using icons representing various actions. It also has a C like, interpreted language within it, so that more advanced users can use advanced techniques.

A few months ago, YoYoGames, was created. Centered around Game Maker, they’ve created a Web Site 2, type site where all the games can be uploaded and drive more to the Game Maker application.

I think it’s about time that effort and resources are devoted to making Game Maker more commercially viable. I expect some big changes,

The GMC, are the forums where Game Maker is supported and discussed.

It’s Empty in Here

OK. Let’s populate this thing.

I don’t expect any comments, and I certainly don’t intend on promoting it, atleast until I get a little content. I am always amused with these guys who SPAM newsgroups and forums with a link to there blog.

Like an idiot, you click their blog link, there’s only one entry.
